Tell us about yourself!
I am a second-year DrPH student at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center School of Public Health. I came back to graduate school during the pandemic having had a few decades of professional work experience, including as a health writer.
Why did you pursue a DrPH?
The DrPH degree applies the latest and most important knowledge and skills in public health to real-world problems, including health inequity and the current mental health crisis.
What are you currently excited about in your job?
I love teaching master's students how to write qualitative research questions. Instructing Mental Health First Aid is very rewarding. I have two practice-based projects too, which are very unique and impactful in Central Texas.
If you could write a book about your life, what would the title be and why?
The Days are Long and the Years are Short: a Memoir on Careers and a Different Path
What is something interesting about you that we should know?
One of my practice-based opportunities is observing and interviewing at a county jail, looking at ways to improve health screening and processes that keep arrested people while awaiting magistration.
