Dr. Wanda Jackson

Tell us about yourself.

My career in public health is driven by a steadfast commitment to achieving health equity for minority and underserved populations. Having spent years on the front lines of healthcare management and residential operations, I witnessed firsthand the systemic barriers that prevent vulnerable communities from accessing high-quality, coordinated care. These experiences solidified my resolve to pursue a Doctor of Public Health in Leadership, Advocacy, and Equity to move beyond operational oversight and toward large-scale systems change. By combining my background in healthcare management with an advanced doctoral framework, I am now focused on dismantling long-standing disparities and leading strategic initiatives that ensure every member of the community has an equitable opportunity for wellness

Why did you pursue a DrPH?

I pursued my DrPH at Tulane University to bridge the gap between frontline operations and systemic transformation. While my Master’s provided the essential foundation for healthcare management, my experience in high-acuity residential and clinical settings revealed a critical need for leaders who can navigate complex care coordination and advocate for marginalized populations at a policy level. My doctoral training evolved my perspective from implementation to strategy, equipping me with the advanced evaluation and advocacy tools necessary to design population-based programs that do more than just manage health—they move the needle on equity and wellness for the communities

What are you currently excited about in your job?

In my current role at CVS Health, I apply public health frameworks to manage high-acuity cases with a primary focus on improving both behavioral and physical health outcomes. I am particularly energized by leveraging data-driven insights to design and apply interventions that stabilize and support vulnerable members. By integrating advanced healthcare management with a deep understanding of the social determinants of health, I aim to create a more seamless and effective care experience for multi-system populations.

If you could write a book about your life, what would the title be and why?

Title: Equity in Action: From the Front Lines to Systems Change. Why: This title reflects my professional trajectory—from providing direct support in community settings to leading strategic healthcare initiatives at a corporate level. It underscores my passion for moving beyond operational management toward a career focused on large-scale health equity, policy implementation, and improved care coordination.

What is something interesting about you that we should know?

I am deeply committed to the intersection of public health pedagogy and civic engagement. In addition to my analytical work, I am interested in exploring adjunct teaching roles to help shape the next generation of public health professionals through modern teaching methodologies
