Mahbubur Rahman

Tell us about yourself.

In my role as Senior Supervisor II at Tarzana Treatment Centers, Inc., I manage administrative tasks, audits, event coordination, academic reviews, and community engagement, all with the goal of creating meaningful impact across the greater Los Angeles area. Looking ahead, my research will focus on developing policies that address systemic health disparities and foster healthier, more resilient communities. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with children, working out, traveling, and reading—activities that keep me grounded and inspired.

Why did you pursue a DrPH?

I was inspired by the DrPH program’s focus on leadership and systems-level change. My passion lies in addressing health inequities and improving behavioral health access for vulnerable populations. The DrPH equips me with the tools to design evidence-based interventions that bridge gaps in care and promote equity.

What are you currently excited about in your job?

As a Senior Supervisor II at Tarzana Treatment Centers, I lead initiatives that strengthen integrated behavioral health services and improve access for vulnerable populations. My work emphasizes equity, cultural competence, and sustainability, aligning with Healthy People 2030 and the 10 Essential Public Health Services. I collaborate with community partners, develop training pipelines, and implement strategies that reduce systemic barriers to care.

If you could write a book about your life, what would the title be and why?

Training Minds. My Journey as a Senior Supervisor.

What is something interesting about you that we should know?

One interesting thing about me is that my academic journey spans three continents and three disciplines. I started as a physician, earning my MBBS and MS in Bangladesh, which gave me a strong foundation in clinical medicine and surgery. Later, I shifted my focus to population health and completed an MPH in the United States. This mix of clinical and public health training allows me to see health challenges from both individual and systems-level perspectives—and it’s what drives my passion for creating solutions that improve equity and access.
