Renae Moch

Tell us about yourself.

I am the Public Health Director for Bismarck–Burleigh Public Health in Bismarck, North Dakota, with more than two decades of experience in healthcare administration and public health leadership. My work focuses on cross-sector collaboration, systems improvement, and strengthening local public health infrastructure. I am currently pursuing a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) with a concentration in leadership and advocacy.

Why did you pursue a DrPH?

I pursued a Doctor of Public Health to strengthen my ability to lead public health practice and drive meaningful, community-level change. My career has focused on translating policy into action, strengthening systems, and building effective partnerships to address complex public health challenges. The DrPH aligns with my strengths as a practitioner and leader, equipping me to advance equitable, sustainable solutions that improve health outcomes in the communities I serve.

What are you currently excited about in your job?

I am currently excited about advancing collaborative, community-based solutions that strengthen public health systems and ensure everyone has access to the services and supports needed to achieve better health. Bringing partners together across public health, healthcare, human services, and local government to translate policy into action and create sustainable, equitable impact is the most rewarding part of my work.

If you could write a book about your life, what would the title be and why?

From the Farm to the Front Lines: Rooted in Service would be the title. Why: This title reflects my journey from a small-town farm in North Dakota to leading public health efforts in complex and challenging environments. Rooted in service, resilience, and community, I have carried the courage to lead through complex challenges on the front lines of public health, including navigating crises like COVID-19. At every stage, my focus has remained on continuous learning, leading with integrity, and giving back by strengthening systems that support the health and well-being of the communities I serve.

What is something interesting about you that we should know?

I am a first-generation graduate student who serves on the NACCHO Board of Directors, bringing a local public health perspective to national leadership while remaining deeply engaged in community-level service.
